When you join, your validation email is sent immediately. If you did not receive it then you may be using an email account with some sort of spam filtering. You may need to add Hit Hillbilly to your list of accepted email senders.
You may want to simply try signing up again with a different email address.
Gmail is extremely reliable. Yahoo can be a problem once in a while.
